| Penrhyncoch History & Honours |
| The club
was formed as
recently as 1965 following a meeting in the
old school, initially Penrhyn played in the Aberystwyth and Disrict
League. Between 1965 and 1982 the league championship was
won five times and Penrhyn were runners up six times. The club settled to play their games at Cae Baker in 1975 and in 1981 the clubhouse was built and opened by Wales national team manager Mike England. In 1982 Penrhyn became founder members of Central Wales League Division Two, new changing rooms were built and the following year promotion was won to the First Division. Following the construction of a new stand and barriers, Penrhyn were founder members of the Cymru Alliance in 1990 as the new Welsh pyramid began to take shape. The first season was a disappointment as the new and unexpected standard took its toll. However in 1992 Penrhyncoch were ninth of 16 clubs and then in 1993 one place better from fifteen. Their best finish in the CA came in 1998 with sixth but this was overshadowed by the decision to withdraw from the league, largely due to the time and finance needed to travel to North West and North East Wales. On a more positive note 1998 was the year that floodlights were erected at Cae Baker as ongoing ground improvements continued. Penrhyncoch were very competitive at Spar Mid Wales League level and their return to the second tier of Welsh football was inevitable. During the spring of 2004 the decision was made to accept a promotion to the Cymru Alliance if the league position was high enough, and to enter into a ground breaking agreement with local rivals Aberystwyth Town. This agreement would benefit both clubs with Penrhyncoch able to play Aberystwyth players who were out of the first team. At the start of the 2004-05 season Penrhyncoch once again took their place in the CA and quickly made a good impression at the new level and steady improvement was rewarded with a 5th place finish in 2009-10 and 2011-12. There is a harmony and continuity at Penrhyncoch which augurs well for the future. |
