Llandyrnog United History & Honours
Llandyrnog United is a very young club in the context of Welsh football.  Whilst many clubs can trace their roots back to the 19th century, United were formed as recently as 1975 following a meeting in the Golden Lion public house.  Because of this the club badge features a golden lion.
The first season 1975-76 saw the new club play in the Clwyd League Division Four and gain promotion as the first attempt.  In 1979 they were again promoted - this time as runners up - to the Clwyd League First Division.  In 1990 United won the Clwyd Cup. After a decade in that division another promotion in 1991 took them up to the Premier League.
In 1992, at the end of their first campaign at this new level, United were Champions of the Clwyd League and promoted to the Sealink Welsh Alliance and proud winners of the Clwyd Premier Cup.  In 1996 they reached the Barritt Cup Final where the finished as runners up.
However this upward movement came to a halt and Llandyrnog were relegated back into the Clwyd League where the remained until 2002-03 when John James was appointed manager and promptly restored their Welsh Alliance status.
After just one season in the Welsh Alliance, United gain promotion to the Cymru Alliance for the first time in its history.  That first season in the second tier of Welsh domestic football ended very positively with a sixth place after some impressive results and performances across the season.
