Llanfair PG
History & Honours |
| Promoted from the Welsh Alliance
to the Cymru Alliance
during the summer of 2001, Llanfair have a long, if not continuous,
history which dated back to the beginning of the 20th century. A Llanfair club was in existence probably in the late 1890s but was forced to stop playing in 1905. Llanfair were Champions of the Anglesey League as far back as 1924 but the 1950s were, at the time, a more successful decade for the club. In 1950 the Anglesey League Second Division runners up spot was repeated in 1953, with the First Division Championship in 1954. The Seventies were also successful with Anglesey League successes again in 1975,76 and 1977, alongside North Wales Junior Cup wins in 1975 and 1976. The Dargie Cup and Megan Cup were also captured in those seasons. The 1980s also saw Anglesey League succes in 1982 and 1983, and as the club grew in stature The Welsh Alliance title in 1988, finishing runners up in 1993, 94 and 1997. One virtually unique strength of the club is that Darren Moore is only their third manager in the past 25 years. The promotion into the Cymru Alliance in 2001 evidenced the progress made with the final placing of ninth in 2003-04 the best to date. Welsh Premiership status is just one good season away, allowing for ground developments which involve moving to a new site at nearby Maes Eilian. The 2007-08 season proved to be the final campaign at Y Gors as the club entered a new chapter in purpose built surroundings at Maes Eilian. |
