Holyhead Hotspurs History & Honours |
In the late 1980's Ken Chambers and others, seeing the need for a new football club formed in 1990 Holyhead Hotspurs FC. At that time there were four other local football clubs in the town operating in different leagues of the North Wales Coast Football Association. By 1997, with the success of Hotspurs, all the clubs had amalgamated, and Holyhead Hotspurs FC became the modern day successor to the "Harbourmen" of years ago, and formed a senior team, a reserve team and seven junior/youth teams (playing under the banner of Holyhead Hotspur Peibio). The Club has enjoyed great success as can be seen from the Club Honours. In successive seasons 1995/6, 1996/7 and 1997/8 the Anglesey League, Gwynedd League and Welsh Alliance League Championships were won, and this was the focus which resulted in the amalgamation of the Holyhead clubs. The season 1998/9 saw the new club promoted to the Cymru Alliance League and beginning life in the second tier of Welsh football. In the past four years Hotspurs have consolidated its position in the Cymru Alliance League and the reserves have likewise consolidated their position in the Gwynedd League. The 2002 finish of ninth represented the best to date before an eighth place in 2007, the final season at the old ground, in the first season of Campbell Harrions's reign. The new ground is a match for any in the Cymru Alliance and with a successful youth policy helping drive the club onwards, a place in the Welsh Premier is now a reality more than a dream. |

The 32 year old player manager
has more than 50 WP appearances for Cemaes Bay and Porthmadog. He also served one season as Port's physiotherapist! Alongside Harrison the ambitious Island club have appointed Mark Williams whose hails from Holyhead but more recently played for Newtown and Shrewsbury Town. A powerful striker Williams will continue to play for his new side and should be more than useful in helping bring along the rich crop of youngster coming through at The Hotspurs. However both Harrison and Williams are new to management but much is expected of them amongst Hotspur supporters. |
