Haverfordwest County History & Honours |
| The club was formed in 1899 as Haverfordwest Hockey
Club but quickly changed this ending to Town.
In 1936 the club moved up to the Welsh League and again changed names, this time becoming Haverfordwest Athletic. "Athletic" wre runners up in the West Wales Senior Cup in 1938 and, after a break due to war, again in 1950. A promotion season followed in 1955 and soon after the club adopted the existing name of Haverfordwest County. In 1957 County were Welsh League Champions. In 1961 County won the League Cup, and in 1983 joined the newly formed National Division. In 1990 the League Cup was won again, and in 1992 Haverfordwest were proud founder members of the LoW. In 1992 and 1993 County were West Wales Senior Cup winners County have produced some of Wales' finest talent to include Ivor Allchurch, Mel Charles, Derek Tapscott and Ronnie Rees. Since joining the newl formed LoW in 1992 County have known relegation and promotion. Their first stay lasted only two seasons but after an absence of three seasons regained their place in 1997 after winning the Welsh League. Their highest finishing position to date is tenth which was achieved both in 1993 and then eight years later in 2001. Meanwhile in 1998 and 1999 County were West Wales Senior Cup winners once again. At the start of the 2008-09 season County have established themselves as a Welsh Premier side, with six successive seasons under their belts. Under the guidance of the experienced Derek Brazil they have genuine grounds for optimism. |
