Carmarthen Town History & Honours |
| Carmarthen
Town was founded as recently as 1948 and moved to their current
ground Richmond Park in 1952. The club was elected to the Welsh League in 1953 and gained promotion from Division Two in 1960. In 1996 Carmarthen won the Welsh League and the Cyril Rogers Cup. The club won promotion to the LoW in 1996 and have established a reputation for gradual improvement and the development of local youngsters, the most notable being Mark Delaney now of Wales and Aston Villa. In 1999 Carmarthen reached the Welsh Cup Final but lost on penalties to Inter Cardiff. In the 1999-2000 season the club finished in 4th place in the LoW under the management of Tommy Morgan, the highest in its history. This in turn was bettered in 2001 with a third placed finish and European qualification. At the end of the 2001-02 season long serving secretary Alan Latham retired and a few weeks later former Swansea defender Nigel Stevenson joined the club as assistant manager. However after a disappointing period which saw the club concentrate on ground improvements, the 2004-05 season saw former Port Talbot boss Mark Jones installed as manager with a strong squad assembled to form a serious challenge for silverware. |
