  Bangor born winger or centre forward Billy Lewis played 27 times for Wales after beginning his career with local side Bangor Rovers.  Known as "Billy Cae Top" he moved to Bangor City before signing for Everton in 1888 for whom he scored once in three appearances.

   He returned to Bangor and played in the 1889 Welsh Cup winning side before moving on to Crewe and Chester without making a league appearances for either.  In 1896 he joined Manchester City where he scored four goals in twelve games before moving to Chester. Billy won 11 of 27 caps with Bangor.
  After he retired Billy ran the Duke of York pub in Chester for a while.

  Winger Dick Jones was the brother of John Owen Jones (see below).
  He was a key member of the Bangor side which won the Welsh Cup in 1889 but signed for Crewe once the final was over, along with team mate Billy Lewis. (above).
  Dick was given a clerical job in the railway accoutant's office in Crewe and went on to make 46 Football League appearances with the Cheshire club in a three year spell.

  Bangor born John Owen Jones was capped twice by Wales in 1901 whilst in his second spell with the club.
  He initially left Bangor to sign for Crewe Alexandra in 1892 and went to make 46 appearances and score 17 goals.  John moved to Chorley and then Newton Heath in 1898 where he made three appearances four years before they changed their name to Manchester United. His debut in September 1898 was against Gainsborough.
  John was known as "Chorley" for much of his career.

  He returned to Bangor in 1899 after being released by The Heathens "for not obeying orders", won those Welsh caps, and went on to play for Earlstown and Stalybridge Rovers.

  Born in Sunderland but raised in Bangor, Smart Arridge was a pupil at Friars Grammar School in Bangor whom he represented at football.
  Smart had a brother Will Arridge who kept goal for City in the 1895 North Wales Cup Final and another Jack Arridge; both were members of the club commitee.
  By 1892 Smart had moved to Merseyside to play for Bootle, then in the Football League Second Di
vision before they dropped out to be replaced by Liverpool.
 
Reports suggest that Smart was "regarded as a gentleman despite specialising in the shoulder charge".  From 1893 he made 56 League appearances for Everton, moved to New Brighton Tower in 1896 where made 83 appearances, and then to Stockport. and a further 63 appearances from 1901-03.
  Smart ended his playing career back with Bangor and retired in 1906.

  Between 1892 and 1899 he won a total of 8 Full International caps for Wales.

  Bangor born Alfred Oliver began his football career with Beaumaris Town before joining City.  In 1905 he signed for Blackburn for whom he made two league appearances and earned the first of his two caps for Wales. Alfred spent one season at Blackburn and returned to Bangor for whom he played - apart from this short break - from 1903 to 1914.
  Alfred ended his career back on Anglesey with Llandegfan.  His son Glyn Oliver was an aerospace engineer in the USA who worked on the Apollo Moon missions.

  Born in the Durham mining village of Coundon Grange, Harry Cousins first played for local sides West Stanley and Anfield Plain before signing for Durham City in 1921. After an impressive 17 goals in 36 matches he moved to Stockport County in 1922 but scored just three times in 14 appearances. In 1923 Harry joined Southport and notched 13 goals in 44 games before moving to Bangor City.
  In 1925 he moved closer to home with Ashington and scored three goals in nine appearances before joining Nelson and Stalybridge Celtic.

  The quaintly named Eddie Lovelady played for Bangor City soon after the end of the First World War and moved to Wrexham as an amateur in 1924. After ten league appearances for The Racecourse club Eddie returned to Farrar Road in January 1925 but moved on to Marine during the following summer only to rejoin Bangor soon after. 
  Eddie represented NWCFA against the Scottish Junior FA in May 1926 before again moving on, this time not to return, to Winsford.

   Left winger Bert Young was born in Liverpool in 1899 and began his football career in 1922 with Everton before signing for Aberdare Athletic a year later.  He made 68 appearances for Aberdare scoring five goals.  His next move was to Brentford and 2 goals in 36 games before joining Bangor City in 1926.
   In 1927 Bert signed for Newport County where he six goals in 64 appearances and then in 1929 to QPR and one goal in 14 appearances.  In 1930 he moved west to Bristol Rovers where he scored 11 goals in 75 matches and finally to Swindon Town and two goals in 14 appearances.

  Defender Bertie Smith was born in Surrey and played his early football with Southark area side Nunhead.  A versatile player who could also operate at centre forward, he joined Huddersfield in 1922 and made a dozen appearances, scoring once, before leaving in 1925.
  In 1926 he signed for Bradford City and scored five goals in 17 league appearances.  His geographical wandering continued with stays at Rhyl Athletic and Bangor City before signing for Bournemouth in 1928.    
  After 28 goalless appearances he joined Steatham Town.

   A coalminer by trade Frankie Allen was born in West Yorkshire but played his early football for Castelford Town before joining Barnsley in 1926. He scored twice in 68 appearances for Barnsley before joining Bangor in 1928 and then second division side Clapton Orient a year later.
   Frankie moved north to Third Division North side Southport for the 1929-30 season scoring six goals in 31 games and then onto league rivals Nelson  (0 in 14) and then Barrow (11 in 67) from 1931-33. He then moved to New Brighton (18 in 51) from 1933-35 and finally, in one last nomadic leap, to Le Havre for two more years before returning to England and work as a coalminer at Ollerton Colliery and finally retirement in Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire until his death from pneumonia in 1988.

  Liverpool born Peter McKenna played for Bangor before signing for Chelsea in 1924.
  In six years with the London side he kept goal 66 times and managed 25 clean sheets (62 league matches) before moving to Southend in 1931 where he added two more appearances. 
  (Chelsea were in Division Two for all of Peter's time with them other than 1930-31 when he made one First Division appearance)

  Goalkeeper Wilfred Burrows had played for home town team Castleford Town and Selby Town before signing for Tranmere Rovers in 1926.  He made 49 league appearances for Rovers before moving to Wrexham in 1931 where he made a further 28 appearances.  In 1933 Wilfred moved York and added three more appearances.
  He then joined Bangor City but by 1934 had signed for Bury but left without a league appearance to join Colwyn Bay and then Shrewsbury.

  Left winger Neville Roberts played for Bangor before signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1935. 
  He failed to register a league appearance for Wolves and moved to Barnsley the following year.  After seven appearances Neville moved to Carlisle in 1936 where he scored six goals in 30 games.
  He ended his career at Shrewsbury.

  Birkenhead born Billy Fogg began his career at local club Wirral Railways and in 1924 signed for Tranmere Rovers for whom he scored 6 goals in 24 appearances. 
  He left Rovers and joined Bangor City before joining Huddersfield Town in 1928 where he scored three goals in 62 appearances.

  In 1933 Billy moved to Clapton Orient where he made a further 81 appearances, scoring twice. 
  In 1936 he came back to his roots with New Brighton where he totalled 70 appearances and one goal before the outbreak of war.

  Left winger John Salmon Warburton was born in Crewe during the first three months of 1903.
  He enjoyed a nomadic football career which Rhyl and then Bangor City before moving to Mold Town. 
  In 1924 John signed for Wrexham where he made a single League appearances before rejoining Mold.  He then played for Macclesfield and Congleton before joining his home town club Crewe Alexandra for whom he made two League appearances.

   Inside right Harry Broome was born in Chorlton, Manchester and began his football career with Altrincham.  In 1926 he signed for Bury but failed to make a league appearance. 
  What followed was three years spent variously with Colwyn Bay, Bangor and Caernarfon before he signed for Crewe Alexandra in 1929.  After five goals in 30 appearances for the Cheshire club Harry moved to Accrington Stanley in 1930 where he totted up 33 appearances and nine goals. 
  He ended his football league career with nine goals in 48 appearances with Mansfield Town from 1931-32.

  Inside left Cornelius J White was born in Leicester in 1905 and began his football career with Whitwick Imperial.
  After a trial with Birmingham in 1924 he moved to Oldham Athletic a year later and made five League appearances for the Lancashire club.  Cornelius then played for Llandudno and Bangor City before signing for Bradford City in 1928. 
  After four goals in four games for Bradford he moved to Loughborough Corinthians and finished his playing career at then non league Hereford United.

  Goalkeeper Bill Johnson was born in Sheffield, probably around 1905, and played his ear
ly football for Midland  League side Wombwell before signing for Leeds United in May 1923. 
  In seve
n years with United he made 72 appearances (plus one in the FA Cup in 1925-26) despite a ruptered kidney in November 1924, before a move to Chester in 1931 where he added  54 more.
  In 1932 Bill moved to Bangor City before joining Crewe Alexandra in 1933 where he added 16 more appearances.  In 1934 he joined Oswestry Town.

  Born in the Northemberland village of Haltwhistle, Bill Routledge played his early football with Stakeford United and South Shields whom he joined in 1907.  He left without making a league appearance and moved south to Crystal Palace but suffered the same fate in 1928. 
  Bill then joined Bangor City, moved on to Colwyn Bay United before signing for Chelsea in 1930 where he notched his barren hatrick - and left without a first team bow. 
  However between 1931-33 he scored 5 goals in 64 appearances for Bristol Rovers, followed by one in 78 outings for York City between 1943-35.  In 1936 Bill joined Carlisle for whom he made 16 appearances.

  Barlborough born Arthur Buxton played for Worksop before signing for Wrexham in 1930 for whom he made 14 appearances.  In 1931 he had a trial with  Mansfield Town but returned to Wrexham and made one more appearance before playing for Bangor City and then Wellington Town.

   Outside right Tommy Bagley was born in Tranmere and played for Bangor during the early 1930s.
   In 1933 he signed for Bury for whom he scored seven goals in 53 league matches.  In 1936 Tommy joined Bradford City and scored four goals in 31 appearances.  In 1938 he signed for Stockport County and in that one season before war broke out scored 13 goals in 41 appearances.

   Left winger John Ascroft was born in Bebington and played his early football with Connahs Quay & Shotton, and then Flint Town.  In 1926 he signed for Oldham Athletic but returned to Flint without making a league appearance.

   In 1927 he signed for Arsenal but moved to Bangor the same season without breaking into the first team.
   In 1929 he joined Wrexham for whom he made ten league appearances, scoring six times, before moving on to Workington and then Runcorn.

  Connahs Quay born Billy Redfern began his career with Holywell Arcadians, played for Bangor City, Marine and Newry Town before joining Luton Town in 1937,  In one season with The Hatters he scored 19 goals in 41 games.
  In 1939 Billy joined Derby County where he added one goal in two appearances.  Whilst with Newry he represented the Irish League and during WW2 Billy played for Wales in a war time Internatioinal, alongside City legend Tommy Glyn Jones against England at Wrexham Racecourse in November 1939.

  Merthyr born Lew Booth played a solitary League match for Swansea City and moved north to Bangor in or around 1934.
  He quickly established himself as a goalscorer with City in the Lancashire Combination and attracted a £350 transfer to Bristol City in 1936. From that time onwards until the outbreak of war Lew made 65 appearances for Bristol scoring 22 goals.
  Some football continued during the war and Lew played for Bristol when circumstances permitted, but retired after the war and lived in the Bristol area until he died in 1984.

  He signed for Bury in 1933 and made 111 league appearances without scoring a goal.  In 1938 he moved closer to home and signed for Motherwell.

  Born near Merthyr Tydfil in 1915 Joffre enjoyed a nomadic footballing career which began with local side Tredegar.
  He was first registered with Southend in 1934 and appeared for Bangor City from 1936-38 before joining Leeds United in March 1938.
  Without making a league appearance he moved to Reading in June 1939 and in a career interrupted by the outbreak of War made 161 league appearances before moving to Swiudon in August 1951. Joffre made a further eleven appearance for Swindon.
  During the war he played for Liverpool FC in friendly matches and Football League North.
  Better known as Jeff he ended his playing career with Guildford City and in 1955 was appointed manager of Didcot FC.
