Cardiff born inside forward Harry Haddon began his career with his home town side but joined Bangor in the mid forties without a league appearance for the Bluebirds. However in February 1947 Harry signed for Newport County where he scored once in ten League appearances. In November 1948 he was transferred to Bristol Rovers where he made 2 League appearances during the 1948-49 season. Harry left Rovers to become player manager of Trowbridge Town. |

Bangor born Mervyn Jones was an impressive member of the City side in the early fifties who attacted the attention of a number of bigger clubs. In December 1951 he signed for Liverpool for whom he made four League appearances before moving to Scunthorpe in August 1953 where he 29 times in 240 League matches. In June 1959 he moved to Crewe Alexandra and scored 14 goals in 84 appearances for The Railwaymen before inching close to home in August 1961 with a transfer to Chester for he scored 10 goals in 63 matches. In October 1963 Mervyn moved to Lincoln City who, after a solitary appearance, allowed him to join Gainsborough Trinity. Football League career totals 51 goals in 392 appearances. |

![]() Phil signed for Manchester City and made one League appearance during the 1951-52 season before moving to Sutton United, In February 1957 he joined Leyton Orient for whom he scored 19 goals in 108 games and was named Amateur Footballer of The year. In November 1958 a £30 000 move to West Ham saw Woosnam turn professional and score 26 goals in 138 League matches. November 1962 and one final transfer, this time closer to home with Aston Villa and 23 goals in 11 appearances. Phil was released by Villa in 1966 to take up the post of Player Coach at Atlanta Chiefs, USA where he still lives (April 2007). He has also served as coach to the American national (soccer) side. Winger Aled Owen impressed on his Bangor debut in February 1953 when he stepped up from the club's reserves, he soon earned a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 1953. One appearance but five years later Aled signed for Ipswich Town in July 1958 where he scored 3 goals in 30 League matches between 1958-61. In March 1963 Aled moved closer to home with Wrexham for whom he made three League appearances before linking up with Holyhead Town. Football League career totals 3 goals in 34 appearances. |

Local lad Kenny Lewis joined Walsall in March 1954 and made eighteen League appearances for The Saddlers that season, scoring once. He was allowed to join Worcester City but returned to Farrar Road before a second move into full time football with Scunthorpe United in August 1956. Stoke born wing half Alan Martin began his career at Potteries side Port Vale for whom he scored 28 goals in 169 League outings during the 1946-51 period. In September 1951 he was transferred to local rivals Stoke City where he added another 6 goals in 104 games. Alan moved to Bangor in March 1957and played alongside Roland Depear and TG Jones but in July 1957 returned to Port Vale for a second spell which yielded 19 games without a goal. Nantwich born Reg Tapley began his football career with Crewe Alexandra but was released without making a first team appearance. Caernarfon born wing half Brian Orritt was a favourite at Farrar Road under the management of Roland Depear before signing for Birmingham City in February 1956. Brian enjoyed five seasons at St Andrews making precisely 100 League appearances scoring 23 goals. He also won three Welsh Under 23 caps. In March 1962 he was transferred to Middlesbrough where he remained until 1965 registering 21 goals in 118 League appearances before moving to South Africa to play for Southern Suburbs. Whilst with Middlesbrough Brian held the distinction of being the club's first substitute when he replaced Neville Chapman on 11th September 1965 in a match against Preston North End. South Kirby born Barry Smith was a nomadic striker whose career began with Farsley Celtic. However in October 1951 he signed for Leeds United for whom he made two appearances scoring once. In May 1955 Barry signed for local rivals Bradford Park Avenue and scored 38 goals in 64 matches. In June 1957 he signed for Wrexham and scored 10 goals in 18 games. In July of 1958 he moved to Stockport County and netted 5 times in 17 games. Barry moved back into non league football with Headington before signing for Oldham Athletic in August 1960 where he played once without scoring. During 1961 Barry was registered with Southport, Bangor City and Accrington Stanley where he made 3 league appearances during their ill fated 1961-62 season which saw them resign from the league mid season. ![]() A former Stoke City apprentice Tony Coleman made a handful of appearances for both Tranmere Rovers and Preston North End prior to his move to Farrar Road in 1964. After some sensational goals and impressive performances for Bangor City he moved to Doncaster Rovers in November 1965 where scored 11 league goals in 55 apperances. In March 1967 Tony joined Manchester City for whom he 12 goals in 83 matches. Futher spells followed with Sheffield Wednesday (12 in 26) Blackpool (0 in 17) Durban City in South Africa, Southport (1 in 23) and finally Stockport County in June 1974 with 3 goals in 30 appearances. Ayr born fullback Ean Cuthbert began his career at Alyth United before joining Blackpool in July 1959. He left Bloomfield Road without making a League appearance but fared better with Stockport County whom he joined in July 1963, making 94 League appearances (no goals). Pat began his career with Liverpool but failed to make a first team appearance and joiend City under the management of Tommy Jones. After 5 goals in 31 games Barry moved to Hartlepool in March 1965 where he scored 4 goals in 45 appearances. In July 1966 on to Tranmere Rovers (3 in 21) and finally Chester City in August 1967 for 9 goals in 118 matches. Bangor born but Anglesey raised John Hughes was a goalscoring forward with Bangor who caught the eye of Blackpool for whom he signed in July 1969. After eight appearances (without a goal) John moved to Southport in March 1971 and scored once in eight matches. After spells with (non leaguers) Bangor City and Altrincham he signed for Stockport County in January 1976 and scored three times in twelve games, before rejoining Bangor for whom he played for several more seasons. Whilst with Altrincham - who were regular FA Cup giant killers - John played at Old Trafford infront of opver 35 000 for The Robins in a replay against Everton on 7th January 1975. It was his goal past Dai Davies at Goodison which had earned Altrincham the draw before a crowd of 34 000 a few days earlier. The pen picture read: "Signed this summer from Bangor City. Former Welsh Under-23 International whilst with Blackpool. Second highest goalscorer in the League for the last two seasons and currently the leading scorer in the League this term. Alex Smith was born in Billingham on 6th February 1944 and joined Middlesbrough as a junior in December 1961. From 1965 to 1971 Alex made 120 League appearances for the club - including one as a sub - and scored once. He moved from Ayresome Park to Farrar Road in 1972 and by July 1974 was returning to the North East and full time football once more with Darlington for whom he made 43 appearance in the 1974-75 season. In June 1989 he moved to Leeds United but after 24 matches for United he was loaned out to Watford (1) and then Notts County (6). ![]() After joining Altrincham a move to Bury followed in November 1977 and a five year stint followed which yielded 52 goals in 152 League games. In August 1983 Steve switched to Rochdale (7 in 19) and then Wigan Athletic in February 1984 (18 in 51) and then to Bristol City (3 in 21) plus loan spells at Rochdale (1 in 6) and Chester (6 in 10) both in the1985-86 season. For 1986-7 and 87-8 Steve played for Scunthorpe scoring 20 goals in 72 games. For the 1988-89 campaign he returned to Chester netting 10 goals in 38 matches finishing second top scorer to another former blue Carl Dale. Liverpool born left winger Frank Corrigan was partly responsible for keeping Steve Johnson out of the Bangor team in the mid seventies (see above). Frank began his career at Blackpool but left without a League appearance to his name. In July 1973 he signed for Walsall for whom he made a solitary appearance before stepping down into non league football. He moved to Farrar Road in the mid seventies but after dazzling NPL defences joined Northwich Victoria and then Wigan Athletic for whom he featured in their first League match at Hereford on 19th August 1978. Liverpool born left footer Kevin Mooney was a Bangor defender in 1979-80 season under the management of Stan Storton before moving back into League football with Bury FC in March 1980, making a solitary appearance in the 1980-81 season. Kevin drifted back into non league football and impressed with Telford United before earning another opportunity with Tranere Rovers in August 1982. During the 1982-83 season he made 22 appearances a scored one goal. He later returned to Bangor both as a player alongside Derek Goulding and as manager. A move to Telford United - pictured left with The FA Trophy he won with United - followed and then on 14th October 1983 Alan signed for Lincoln City for £50 000 for whom he scored 4 goals in 75 League appearances. On 30th July 1985 he joined Millwall (8 in 92) for £32 500 and then on 25th March 1988 Gillingham (7 in 151) for £50 000. The 1992-93 season was split between Plymouth Argyle ((1 in 2) and Mansfield Town (1 in 22). On 9th August 1993 Alan linked up with Barnet (2 in 59) but was surprisingly released in March 1995 and joined non league Sittingbourne. After experience in management with Sittingborne, Fisher Athletic, Tonbridge Angels and Bromley, Alan was most recently (March 2007) working as Head of Coaching Education for the Kent FA. However after the 1984 replay Carter moved on to Runcorn where he established himself as one of the outstanding marksmen in Non League football with close to 200 goals in 320 appearances (league and cup) In February 1991 Mark - better known as Spike - joined Barnet for £40 000 who were fighting for the Conference title and with it promotion to the Football League. This they achieved and after 30 goals in 82 League matches Carter headed north to Bury for £8 000 in September 1993. A four year spell at Gigg Lane yielded 62 goals in 133 appearances. In August 1997 he made the short journed to Rochdale (2 goals in 11) from where the circle was complete with a move back into non league circles with Gateshead and then Runcorn once more. Alan joined Bangor from fierce local rivals Caernarfon Town along with centre half Jerry Banks. Morris was a cultured figure in the FA Trophy run alongside Bobby Peel but was tempted into full time football with his home town side Chester City. Midfielder John Aspinall was a cultured, hard working midfielder who could drop into central defence when the situation demanded. He signed for Bangor in 1984 under the management of John Mahoney having already made 77 league appearances for Tranmere Rovers scoring 19 goals. He has also played for Cammell Laird and Altrincham. He left Bangor for a second brief spell with Rovers in the 1987-88 season where he made a dozen first league appearances before returning to Farrar Road where he eventually became manager. Long striding left winger Neil Ellis joined Bangor from Oswestry Town and was an impressive figure in the Northern Premier League days. He moved to Chester City for the 1990-91 season scoring 1 goal in 21 appearances, and spent the following year at Maidstone failing to score in 28 league matches. Neil then moved back into non league football with Kettering Town and Northwich and made a fleeting return to Farrar Road in 1996-97 and one WP substitute appearance for City. ![]() Birkenhead born winger Ray Woods joined City from Tranmere in November 1984 but made more of an impression at Caernarfon before moving on to Runcorn and Northwich Victoria. By March 1989 he had joined Wigan Athletic for whom he made 28 league appearances scoring 3 goals. In January 1991 Ray moved to Coventry City for £200 000 and turned out 21 times for The Sky Blues scoring once. January 1993 saw a brief loan return to Wigan Athletic and 13 goalless appearances. In March 1994 a final league move to Shrewsbury Town and a solitary goal in 51 appearances. In August 1998 Ray signed for non league Worcester City where he now (April 2007) works as Youth Development officer. ![]() Colwyn Bay born striker Carl Dale terrorised Northern Premier League defences before earning a £12 000 transfer to Chester City in May 1988. He 41 goals in 116 league appearances for The Seals. On 19th Auhust 1991 his goalscoring prompted a £100 000 transfer to Cardiff City where won The Welsh Cup in 1992 and 1993 and the Third Division Championship in '93.
